> dijitul designs websites for UK small businesses and sole traders that bring in calls and enquiries, not just visits. A custom 5 page Starter site with click-to-call, a contact form and Google Business Profile setup costs from £250 + VAT, and growing firms can move to the 15 page Business package from £500 + VAT.

Price: From £250 + VAT

## Problems this solves

- Customers find you on Google Maps but your website lets them down
- You rely on word of mouth and a Facebook page
- Your site was built by a friend years ago and nobody can update it
- Bigger competitors show up in search and you don't
- You don't have a big budget or time to manage a long project
- Enquiries come through at random with no way to see what works

## Key facts

- Starter from £250 + VAT for up to 5 pages
- Business from £500 + VAT for up to 15 pages with copywriting
- Click-to-call and a contact form on every page
- Google Business Profile set up as standard
- You can edit text and photos yourself
- Website and domain owned by you, no contracts tying you in

## What a small business website has to do

A small business site has one job: turn someone who has just found you into someone who calls, books or fills in a form. Everything else is secondary. In practice that means:

- **Say what you do and where in the first screen.** For example, boiler repairs in Mansfield and Sutton, not a vague slogan.
- **Make contact one tap away.** A sticky call button on phones, a short form, your opening hours.
- **Show proof.** Photos of real work, accreditations you genuinely hold and links to your reviews.
- **Load fast on a phone.** Ofcom's Online Nation 2025 report found smartphones take 75% to 79% of UK adults' time online, so your phone layout is your main layout.

We design every small business site around those four points before thinking about colours.

## Starter or Business: which do you need?

**Starter, from £250 + VAT,** suits sole traders, new businesses and firms with one or two core services. Up to 5 pages, typically live in 3 to 4 weeks.

**Business, from £500 + VAT,** suits firms that want to rank for several services or towns. Up to 15 pages, a dedicated page per service, copywriting, full schema markup, local SEO groundwork and conversion tracking. Typically 5 to 6 weeks.

A simple rule: if you would like to appear in Google for more than three different services, the Business package usually pays for itself, because each service gets its own page to rank. You can start on Starter and add pages later at £45 an hour + VAT. Full detail is on our pricing page.

## Getting found locally

For most small businesses, the first search result people see is the Google map pack, not a website. That is driven by your Google Business Profile, which we set up or tidy on every Starter and Business project. We then make sure the website backs it up:

- Your business name, address and phone number match exactly across the site and the profile
- LocalBusiness schema tells search engines your hours, area served and contact details
- Each service page names the towns you actually cover
- Search Console is verified and your sitemap submitted at launch

This is groundwork, not a ranking promise. Sites that need ongoing search work can use our sister company Search Engine Tuning. Read more on SEO-friendly web design.

## Keeping costs under control

Small business budgets are tight, so we keep the extras visible. Your quote lists anything outside the package: domain registration, stock photography, premium plugins and hosting. Hosting is available from £1 a day + VAT and care plans from £25 a month + VAT, but neither is compulsory. You own the site, so you can host it anywhere.

We also build with editing in mind. On WordPress you will use the block editor to change text and images yourself, so you are not paying an hourly rate every time your prices change. See WordPress web design if that platform suits you, or affordable website design for how we keep the price low without cutting corners.

## Mistakes we see on small business sites

Most of the small business websites we are asked to replace have the same handful of problems. Each one costs enquiries:

- **No phone number in the header on mobile.** People ready to call won't scroll looking for it.
- **A home page slider.** Few visitors wait for slide three, and sliders often slow the main image and hurt Largest Contentful Paint.
- **Services hidden in one long page.** Google can't tell which service you want to be found for.
- **Stock photos of people who clearly don't work there.** Real photos of you and your work build more trust.
- **Forms with ten fields.** Ask for name, phone or email and the job. Get the rest on the call.
- **No privacy notice.** If you collect enquiries, UK GDPR requires you to say what you do with the data.

We fix all of these as standard, whichever package you choose.

## Sites we build for small businesses

The same approach works across most trades and services. We have dedicated pages for tradespeople, salons, cleaning companies, accountants and startups. If customers book appointments, look at booking website design. If you sell products, the Ecommerce package from £750 + VAT is the place to start. When you are ready, get in touch and we will tell you honestly which package fits.

## What you get

- Home, services, about, reviews or gallery, and contact pages as standard
- Click-to-call buttons on every page, sticky on phones
- A short contact form that emails enquiries straight to you
- Google Business Profile created or tidied, linked to the site
- LocalBusiness schema with your name, address, phone and opening hours
- Analytics and Search Console so you can see where enquiries come from
- A short handover so you can make your own edits

## FAQs

### How much should a small business website cost in the UK?

With dijitul a custom small business website starts from £250 + VAT for up to 5 pages, or from £500 + VAT for up to 15 pages with copywriting and local SEO groundwork. Domains, hosting and premium plugins are extras, listed in your quote.

### Do I need a website if I have a Facebook page?

Yes, ideally. A Facebook page is controlled by Meta, does not rank well for service searches and can be restricted at any time. A website you own works with your Google Business Profile, shows up in search and gives you a place to send every customer.

### How many pages does a small business website need?

Most start with five: home, services, about, reviews or gallery, and contact. If you offer several distinct services or cover many towns, separate pages for each help you rank, which is why our Business package allows up to 15.

### Can I add pages later?

Yes. You can add pages yourself through the editor, or we can design and build them for £45 an hour + VAT. Moving from Starter to Business later is also straightforward because the design system is already in place.

### Will you set up my Google Business Profile?

Yes, it is included in both the Starter and Business packages. We create or tidy the profile, match its details to your website and show you how to post updates and reply to reviews.

### I'm a sole trader with no logo. Can you still help?

Yes. We can design a clean text based identity within the website, or our sister company dijitul media can create a full logo and brand. Plenty of sole traders launch with a simple wordmark and upgrade later.
