> dijitul web design builds online shops for UK independent retailers on Shopify or WooCommerce, linked to your till system where possible, with click-and-collect, local delivery, a Google Merchant Centre feed and clear returns terms. Shoppers can check stock, buy online or reserve in store. Retail ecommerce sites start from £750 + VAT.

Price: From £750 + VAT

## Problems this solves

- Customers ring to ask if you have something in stock
- Your website and your till show different stock levels
- You sell on Instagram but take payment by bank transfer in DMs
- Your shop is busy at weekends and the website brings nothing on a Tuesday
- Product photos are inconsistent sizes and the shop looks messy on a phone
- You lost a sale because postage was only shown at the last step

## Key facts

- Shopify or WooCommerce, chosen by how many products you sell and how you run the shop floor
- Stock synced with your EPOS where your till supports it, so you do not sell the last one twice
- Click-and-collect and local delivery zones by postcode, set up as delivery rules at checkout
- Google Merchant Centre feed so products can appear in Google's free shopping listings
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013: online shoppers get 14 days to cancel, and your returns page must say so
- Since April 2025 the DMCC Act drip pricing rules require mandatory charges in the headline price
- Abandoned cart emails and staff training on order handling included

## What shoppers look for before they visit a shop

People increasingly check online before they make the trip: "bike shop near me open now", "wool shop Newark", "gift shop with free gift wrap", "is X in stock near me". For an independent retailer the website does two jobs. It sells to people who will never visit, and it convinces local people that the trip is worth it because the item is there.

So we design for both. Opening hours, address, parking and a map sit in the footer and on a visit-us page. Each product shows whether it is available to collect today. Category pages are named the way customers speak, so "women's walking boots" rather than an internal supplier code, which also helps those pages rank.

Your shop's personality is your advantage over the big chains. Staff picks, local makers and short buying guides give people a reason to choose you and give AI assistants something specific to quote.

## Shopify or WooCommerce, and linking your till

Both platforms work well for independents. Shopify is hosted for you, has its own POS app for the counter and suits retailers who want stock in one place without managing a server. WooCommerce runs on WordPress, gives you more control over content and checkout, and suits shops with a lot of editorial content or unusual product rules. Newer WooCommerce stores use High-Performance Order Storage, which keeps orders in their own database tables and helps busy stores stay quick.

The bigger question is your till. If you already use an EPOS system, we check whether it can sync stock with your chosen platform before recommending one. Many popular tills offer Shopify or WooCommerce connections; some need a third-party connector with its own fee. Where a sync is possible, one stock count drives both the shop floor and the website.

## Click-and-collect, local delivery and Google Shopping

Local options win local orders. We set up click-and-collect with a clear ready-for-collection email, and local delivery by postcode with its own price and minimum order. National delivery uses weight or price bands, and every delivery option is shown on the product page and in the basket, not only at the final step.

Then we connect a Google Merchant Centre feed. With a good feed, your products can appear in Google's free shopping listings and on Google Maps for searches near your shop, and you are ready if you later run Shopping ads. We map your product titles, GTINs or brand and MPN codes, prices and availability so the feed passes Google's checks.

## Prices, returns and consumer law

Selling online brings rules you do not face over the counter. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 give online shoppers 14 days to cancel after they receive goods, and you must refund within 14 days once you get the goods back or proof of return. Your returns page has to say this clearly, along with who pays return postage. We write delivery, returns and terms pages for you to check with your adviser.

Pricing is now stricter too. The DMCC Act 2024 drip pricing rules, in force since April 2025, require the headline price to include any mandatory charges, and the CMA finalised its price transparency guidance in November 2025. We show delivery costs early and avoid surprise fees at checkout. Cookie consent follows UK GDPR and PECR, with marketing tags held back until shoppers accept.

## FAQs

### Can my website stock sync with my shop till?

Often, yes. Shopify has its own POS app, and many EPOS systems offer Shopify or WooCommerce connections, sometimes through a paid connector. We check your till before recommending a platform, so one stock count runs both the shop floor and the website.

### Shopify or WooCommerce for an independent shop?

Shopify suits retailers who want hosting, security and POS handled in one subscription. WooCommerce suits shops that want more control over content, checkout and costs, and are happy with WordPress. We recommend one after looking at your product count, till and how much you will edit yourself.

### What returns rights do online customers have?

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, online shoppers can cancel within 14 days of receiving goods, and you must refund within 14 days of getting the goods back or proof of return. Some items, such as personalised goods, are exempt. We write a clear returns page reflecting your policy.

### Will my products show on Google Shopping?

We set up a Google Merchant Centre feed with titles, prices, availability and product identifiers. That makes your products eligible for Google's free shopping listings, and ready for Shopping ads if you choose to run them. Google decides what appears, so we cannot guarantee placements.

### Can customers reserve and collect in store?

Yes. Click-and-collect is set up as a delivery option with its own confirmation and ready-to-collect emails. You can also offer local delivery by postcode with its own price and minimum order value.

### How many products can you add for me?

We build the structure and add a starter set of products so you can see how it works, then train your staff to add the rest. For large ranges we can import from a spreadsheet or supplier file, priced in your quote.
