## Problems this solves

- Your profile on a therapy directory gets more enquiries than your own website
- Your homepage lists 30 issues and modalities and nobody knows where to start
- You are unsure whether you can use your register logo on a shared practice site
- Your contact form asks people to describe their problem in detail before they have met you
- Your site looks clinical and cold, the opposite of your sessions
- You are not sure what you are allowed to claim about outcomes

## Key facts

- BACP's member logo became a collective mark in April 2022 and must be identified as owned by BACP; registered members (MBACP) get a personalised logo
- UKCP's September 2025 logo policy limits the logo to full clinical registrants and trainees, and trainees must state their trainee status
- On a group practice site, UKCP allows the logo beside the member's name and on their profile page, not on the practice home page
- CAP Code rule 12.1 requires evidence for objective health claims; the ASA has upheld complaints against hypnotherapists who could not back claims
- Contact forms ask only what you need, because health information is special category data under UK GDPR
- Simple booking for a free initial call through your practice software or calendar

## How people look for a therapist

Someone looking for therapy is often anxious, tired or searching late at night. The searches are specific and personal: "counsellor for anxiety near me", "bereavement counselling Mansfield", "couples therapist online", "EMDR therapist Nottingham", "low cost counselling". They read a few profiles and choose the person who feels safe and seems to understand.

Your website needs to feel like your room. That means a calm layout, readable text at a comfortable size, your photo, and a few paragraphs in your own voice about how you work. We help you choose three to six main areas of work and give each a page, rather than listing every issue you have ever supported. People recognise themselves in a page about panic attacks far more than in a list.

Practical details remove barriers: fees, session length, whether you work online, by phone or in person, accessibility of your room, and how the first contact works. A clear "what happens next" section lowers the bar for someone who has never had therapy.

## Showing your register membership correctly

Professional membership is the main trust signal for clients, and each body sets rules on how you show it.

- **BACP.** Since April 2022 the BACP member logo is a collective mark, and BACP's regulations say it must be identified as a collective mark owned by BACP. Registered members (MBACP) have their details on the BACP Register and receive a personalised logo; student and some other categories cannot use logos or designatory letters. The Professional Standards Authority Accredited Registers Quality Mark forms part of the registered member logo.
- **UKCP.** UKCP's logo policy, updated in September 2025, allows the logo for full clinical registrants and trainee members, with trainees required to state their trainee status. Student members may not use it. On a group practice website, a member's logo can sit beside their name and on their own profile page, but not on the practice home page.

We place logos where each body allows and link to your entry on the public register so clients can check it. Some titles are protected by law; "clinical psychologist" and "counselling psychologist", for example, are protected by the HCPC. We use your exact registered titles and nothing more.

## What you can say: advertising rules for therapies

Your website is advertising under the ASA's CAP Code. Rule 3.7 requires evidence for any claim a reader would see as objective, and rule 12.1 requires objective health claims to be backed by evidence, where relevant trials on people. The ASA's guidance on hypnotherapy accepts it can help with things like anxiety, sleep and confidence, but rulings have gone against practitioners who claimed to treat conditions without evidence or in ways that could discourage people from seeking medical help.

So we write in terms of support rather than cure: "I work with people experiencing anxiety" rather than "I can cure your anxiety in three sessions". Testimonials need care too, both for confidentiality and because they count as claims. Most therapists choose not to use them.

## Privacy-first enquiries and booking

Information about someone's mental health is special category data under UK GDPR, which carries stricter rules. The simplest protection is not to collect it on first contact. Our therapist contact forms ask for a name, a way to reply and a preferred time, with an optional short message and a note asking people not to share details they would prefer to discuss in person.

Many therapists prefer a booking link for a free 15 or 20 minute call. We connect the practice software or calendar you already use so people can choose a time without writing anything sensitive. If your site supports people who may be at risk, such as those experiencing domestic abuse, we can add a quick exit button that leaves the site immediately. Analytics only runs after consent, under PECR.

## What a therapist website costs

Most solo practitioners need five pages or fewer: home, about, how I work, fees and contact. That is our Starter package, from £250 + VAT, with a contact form, Google Business Profile and analytics. Group practices with several therapists, or individuals who want a page for each area of work written to rank, usually choose Business, from £500 + VAT. Online courses or paid resources are quoted. If you want us to keep it updated and secure, care plans are from £25 a month + VAT at dijitul support. See also accessible web design.

## FAQs

### Can I use the BACP logo on my website?

Registered members (MBACP) can use their personalised member logo, which since April 2022 is a collective mark and must be identified as owned by BACP. Students and some other categories cannot use logos or designatory letters until they join the register. We place it as BACP allows and link to your register entry.

### Where can the UKCP logo go on a group practice website?

UKCP's September 2025 logo policy says a member working in a practice can show the logo next to their name and on their own profile page, but not on the practice home page or pages unrelated to them. Organisational members have separate rules.

### What should my contact form ask?

As little as possible. Name, how to reply and a good time to talk is usually enough. Mental health details are special category data under UK GDPR, so we avoid collecting them by default and add a note inviting people to share more when you speak.

### Can I say therapy will help with specific conditions?

Be careful. The CAP Code requires evidence for objective health claims, and the ASA has upheld complaints against hypnotherapists who claimed to treat conditions without it. We write about the issues you support people with, without promising outcomes.

### Should I list every issue I work with?

No. A long list is hard to read and rarely ranks. Pick three to six main areas, give each its own page in plain language, and mention others briefly. People are more likely to contact a therapist whose page describes their situation.

### Can clients book an initial call online?

Yes. We connect your calendar or practice software so people choose a time for a free short call, with automatic reminders. It avoids long email exchanges and means nobody has to write about their problems in a form.
