Why direct bookings start with your website
Guests often find a hotel on a booking platform and then search its name to check the official site. If your site is slow, dated or makes booking awkward, they go back and book through the platform. If it is quick, clear and shows a good reason to book direct (best rate, free breakfast, flexible cancellation, a late checkout), many will book with you.
So the hotel website's job is simple. Show the rooms honestly, make the price and availability easy to check, and get the guest into the booking engine with as little friction as possible. We put a 'Check availability' or 'Book direct' button in the header of every page and pass dates through to your booking engine where it supports it.
Total pricing and the DMCC Act
The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 banned drip pricing from 6 April 2025. Traders must show the total price, including any fees, taxes or charges the consumer will necessarily pay, rather than adding mandatory charges later in the booking. Legal commentary on the CMA's guidance notes that mandatory local charges such as resort fees should be included even in indicative 'per night' prices once they can be calculated. The CMA can now fine businesses directly, up to 10% of worldwide turnover.
For your website that means 'from' prices on room pages must include unavoidable fees, and any offer banners must reflect the real total. Optional extras like parking or dog stays can be shown separately, as long as they are genuinely optional. We check this copy with you before launch, and your booking engine settings need to match.
Room pages that answer the real questions
Each room type gets its own page with the same layout, so guests can compare quickly: bed size, room size, maximum occupancy, view, bathroom type (shower, bath or both), accessibility features, and what is included. Photos should be recent, bright and honest. A guest who arrives to find a smaller room than the photos suggested writes a review about it.
Hotel photography is heavy. We serve images as WebP or AVIF with fallbacks, size them for each screen and lazy-load galleries, so the first screen meets Google's Core Web Vitals guidance of a Largest Contentful Paint at or under 2.5 seconds. If you need new photography, our sister site dijitulmedia.co.uk handles that separately.
Pages that rank beyond your own name
Searches for your hotel name are the easy part. New guests search for things like 'dog friendly hotel Peak District', 'B&B near Sherwood Forest' or 'wedding venue with rooms'. Pages built around those needs give you a chance to be found before the guest reaches a booking platform. An area guide with walks, attractions and travel times, a dog friendly page with your actual rules and charges, and pages for weddings, meetings or special breaks all earn their place if they describe what you genuinely offer.
We add Hotel schema with your address, check-in and check-out times, amenities and star rating if you hold one, so search engines show accurate details. Only quote a star rating you currently hold from a recognised scheme such as VisitEngland or the AA. Your Google Business Profile carries the same facts, because mismatched check-in times between Google and the website are a common cause of complaints.
Accessibility information guests rely on
Guests with mobility, sight or hearing needs often have to ring to ask basic questions. A dedicated accessibility page with step-free access details, door widths, accessible bathroom features, hearing loops and assistance dog policy saves those calls and wins bookings. The site itself is built to WCAG 2.2 AA as a target, with proper contrast, keyboard navigation and alt text on room photos.

Frequently asked questions
Can you connect our existing booking engine?
Usually yes. Most hotel booking engines and channel managers provide an embed or a deep link. We integrate it behind a clear booking button, style it to match where the provider allows, and track booking clicks in Analytics.
Do our website prices have to include all fees?
Under the DMCC Act drip pricing rules in force since 6 April 2025, mandatory fees, taxes and charges must be included in the price shown rather than added later. Optional extras can be shown separately. Check your booking engine settings match your website copy.
How do we encourage guests to book direct?
Give them a real reason, such as a better rate, breakfast included or flexible cancellation, state it clearly on every page, and make booking quick. A fast site with honest photos and a visible booking button does most of the work.
Can we sell gift vouchers on our website?
Yes. Voucher sales are an ecommerce feature from £750 + VAT, with payment, email delivery and redemption codes. Some booking platforms offer voucher modules too, which we can embed instead.
What should our accessibility page include?
Step-free routes, parking, door widths, lift details, accessible room and bathroom features, hearing loops, assistance dog policy and a contact for questions. Factual detail is more helpful than general reassurance.
