Sound familiar?
- Your conveyancing price page leaves out disbursements or VAT
- The SRA badge is buried on a 'Regulatory' page nobody can find
- Your complaints page does not mention the Legal Ombudsman
- Clients email documents to a general inbox because there is no secure route
- Every practice area is on one long page, so none of them ranks
- Fee earner profiles are out of date because only the old web company could change them

What the SRA Transparency Rules require on your website
The SRA Transparency Rules are not optional extras. The current version came into effect on 11 April 2025. For a law firm website, the key duties are:
- Rule 1, costs information: if you publicise certain services, you must publish costs information for them. For individuals these include residential conveyancing, uncontested probate, immigration applications (excluding asylum), First-tier Tribunal immigration appeals, summary-only motoring offences dealt with at a single hearing, and employment tribunal claims for unfair or wrongful dismissal. For businesses they include defending those employment claims, debt recovery up to £100,000 and licensing applications for business premises.
- What the price information must cover: total cost (or an average or range), the basis of charges, likely disbursements, whether VAT applies and how much, what is included and excluded, key stages and likely timescales, and the experience and qualifications of the people doing and supervising the work. It must be clear, accessible and in a prominent place on the website.
- Rule 2, complaints: publish your complaints procedure, including how and when a client can complain to the Legal Ombudsman and to the SRA.
- Rule 4.1, regulatory information: an authorised body must display its SRA number and the SRA digital badge in a prominent place on its website.
We build each of these into the structure from the start, not as afterthought pages.
The SRA digital badge, installed properly
The SRA's clickable logo became mandatory on 25 November 2019. It is not an image you copy. You register through the SRA's badge page, which is run with its technology partner Yoshki, and receive code to add to your site. The badge checks your regulated status and shows the current date, and visitors who click it see an SRA-hosted page confirming you are regulated and what protections that brings.
We place the badge where clients will see it, typically in the site footer on every page and near the top of the home page, alongside your SRA number. We make sure it is not blocked by your cookie banner or content security policy, and we test it after launch. Letterhead and email footers have their own wording requirement under rule 4.2, which we can mirror in your email signature template.
Price pages clients can actually read
Price transparency only helps if people can follow it. We lay out each priced service with a short summary, a table of legal fees for common scenarios (for example by property value band in conveyancing), a separate table of likely disbursements such as search fees and Land Registry fees, and a clear VAT line. Then come the key stages, likely timescales, what is not included, and who will handle the matter, with their qualifications and experience.
Tables are built as real HTML tables, not images, so they work with screen readers and on phones. That matters for accessibility and for the SRA's 'clear and accessible' test. When fees change, you update the table in the editor without touching the layout.
Practice area pages that win instructions
People search for the problem, not the practice area: 'how long does probate take', 'settlement agreement solicitor', 'fixed fee conveyancing'. Each practice area gets its own page with a short answer to the main question, what you do, how fees work and who to speak to. Business clients get their own route through the site, so a company director is not wading through family law to find commercial contracts.
Our Business package from £500 + VAT includes up to 15 pages, copywriting, schema markup (LegalService and Person for key fee earners) and speed tuning. Larger firms with many offices, client portals or document upload systems get a fixed quote, and secure client apps can be built through our sister company at dijituldevelopments.co.uk.
Privacy, enquiries and confidentiality
Law firm enquiry forms often collect sensitive information. We keep forms short and tell people not to send confidential details until a conflict check is done. Submissions go over HTTPS to a named inbox, with no copies stored in the website database unless you need them. The privacy notice explains this in plain English, and the cookie banner blocks analytics until consent is given, as PECR requires.
If you trade as an LLP or limited company, the footer carries your registered name, number and registered office as the trading disclosure regulations require, alongside your SRA number. See prices or get in touch.

Frequently asked questions
Where must the SRA digital badge appear on our website?
Rule 4.1 of the SRA Transparency Rules says an authorised body must display its SRA number and the SRA digital badge in a prominent place on its website. We usually place it in the footer of every page and near the top of the home page, and test that it loads.
Do we have to publish prices for all our services?
No. The costs information duty applies to the specific services listed in the Transparency Rules, such as residential conveyancing, uncontested probate, certain immigration and employment matters, debt recovery up to £100,000 and business licensing applications, where you publicise those services.
What must our complaints page include?
Your complaints handling procedure, including how and when a client can complain to the Legal Ombudsman and to the SRA. We write it as a clear web page rather than a PDF, and link it from the footer of every page.
Can you build a client document upload area?
A simple secure upload form can be added to a standard build. A full client portal with logins, case tracking and document storage is a software project and gets a fixed quote, usually through dijituldevelopments.co.uk.
How much does a solicitor website cost?
Most firms suit our Business package from £500 + VAT, which covers up to 15 pages, copywriting, schema and speed tuning. Larger multi-office sites, complex calculators or portals are quoted. Changes after launch are £45 an hour + VAT.
Can you write our price transparency pages?
We can draft them from the information you give us and lay them out to cover every element the rules list. You and your compliance officer must check and approve the figures and wording, because the regulatory responsibility stays with the firm.
