Sound familiar?

  • Your site looks dated next to competitors
  • It loads slowly and Search Console flags poor Core Web Vitals
  • It was built before phones mattered and it shows
  • Only your old developer can update it and they've vanished
  • You've added pages for years and the navigation is a maze
  • You're scared a new site will lose the rankings you have

Key facts

  • Redesigns from £250 + VAT, priced on the number of pages
  • Full URL map with 301 redirects so rankings and links carry over
  • Content audit: keep, improve, merge or remove each page
  • Rebuilt mobile-first to Core Web Vitals targets
  • Search Console checked before and after launch
  • Platform moves supported, for example Wix or Squarespace to WordPress

Signs it's time for a redesign

A redesign is worth considering when the problems are structural, not cosmetic. Typical triggers we see:

  • Search Console's Core Web Vitals report shows URLs as Poor or Needs improvement
  • The phone layout is a shrunk desktop page with tiny text and buttons
  • Enquiries have dropped while traffic hasn't
  • The site runs on an old, unsupported theme or PHP version
  • You have outgrown the page structure and services are buried
  • Your brand has changed but the site hasn't

If the structure is sound and you mainly want a new look, a lighter website refresh may be enough and costs less.

Protecting your rankings

The biggest risk in any redesign is losing search traffic because old pages vanish. We manage that in a set order:

  1. Crawl and export every URL on the current site, plus pages Search Console and Analytics show getting traffic.
  2. Audit content: decide for each page whether to keep it, improve it, merge it or retire it.
  3. Map redirects: each old URL gets a permanent 301 redirect to the closest new page. No mass redirects to the home page.
  4. Carry over the basics: page titles, meta descriptions, headings and schema are kept or improved, not lost.
  5. Launch and monitor: resubmit the sitemap, check crawl errors and watch Search Console for the following weeks.

Rankings can fluctuate briefly after any relaunch. A careful migration keeps that short. Read more on SEO-friendly web design.

Changing platform during a redesign

A redesign is the natural moment to move to a platform that suits you better. Common moves we handle:

  • From Wix or Squarespace to WordPress, for more control and ownership
  • From an old hand-coded site to WordPress, so you can edit it yourself
  • From a heavy page builder to a lean custom WordPress build
  • From WooCommerce to Shopify, or the other way, for shops

We export and import content where the platforms allow it and rebuild by hand where they don't. Product data, blog posts and images are moved with their URLs mapped.

Measuring whether the redesign worked

A redesign should be judged on numbers, not just looks. Before we start, we record a baseline from your current site:

  • Monthly organic clicks and top queries from Search Console
  • Enquiries, calls or sales per month, from Analytics or your own records
  • The Core Web Vitals status of your main page groups
  • Your most visited landing pages and how many visitors leave them without acting

After launch we compare against that baseline. Google's web.dev guidance sets good Core Web Vitals at Largest Contentful Paint of 2.5 seconds or less, Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less and Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less, so we check where your new templates sit against those. Search Console's field data needs a few weeks of real visits to update, so we look again once it has caught up. If enquiries are the goal, conversion tracking set up during the build shows exactly which pages produce them.

What a redesign costs

Redesigns are priced like new builds, on the size of the finished site:

  • Up to 5 pages: from £250 + VAT
  • Up to 15 pages, with copywriting and schema: from £500 + VAT
  • Online shops: from £750 + VAT

Large sites with hundreds of pages or blog posts to migrate get a fixed quote after the audit. Extra time is £45 an hour + VAT. See pricing for full package details.

After the redesign

Your new site is yours: all logins, the domain and the content. Most redesign clients also want the thing that went wrong last time fixed, which is usually maintenance. Our sister company dijitul support offers care plans from £25 a month + VAT covering updates, backups and security, so the site doesn't drift out of date again. If you're ready, request a quote and send us your current URL.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose my Google rankings if I redesign my website?

Not if the migration is handled properly. We map every old URL to a new one with 301 redirects, keep or improve titles and headings, and monitor Search Console after launch. Short fluctuations can happen, but well planned redesigns usually recover quickly.

How much does a website redesign cost?

With dijitul, a redesign starts from £250 + VAT for up to 5 pages, £500 + VAT for up to 15 pages with copywriting, and £750 + VAT for an online shop. Large sites with lots of content to migrate are given a fixed quote after an audit.

Can you keep my existing content?

Yes. We audit each page, keep what works, improve weak pages and merge duplicates. On Business packages we also rewrite copy where it would help it rank or convert better.

How long does a redesign take?

Similar to a new build: typically 3 to 4 weeks for a small site and 5 to 6 weeks for a 15 page site. Your old site stays live until the new one is ready, so there is no downtime.

Can you redesign a site someone else built?

Yes, that is most of our redesign work. We need access to the domain, hosting or platform account. If your previous developer holds those, we can help you recover them through the registrar or platform.

Should I redesign or just refresh my site?

If the structure, platform and speed are fine but it looks dated, a refresh is usually enough. If it's slow, hard to edit, poor on phones or the navigation no longer fits your services, a full redesign is the better investment.
