Sound familiar?
- You built your Wix site yourself and it doesn't look professional
- Elements overlap or disappear on mobile
- Your Wix site is slow and you can't work out why
- You're paying for Wix apps you no longer use
- You want to leave Wix but don't want to lose your Google rankings
Key facts
- UK Wix plans billed annually: Light £9, Core £16, Business £25, Business Elite £119 a month (Wix UK pricing as reported by ExpertSure, July 2026)
- Wix's own help centre says a Wix site can't be exported or hosted elsewhere
- Hosting, SSL and updates are included in the Wix subscription
- Wix runs 4.2% of all websites (W3Techs, 18 October 2026)
- Promotional first-year prices often revert to the full rate on renewal
- Good for small, simple sites; weaker for complex SEO or custom features
What Wix does well
Wix is a hosted website builder with a drag-and-drop editor. You can place any element anywhere on the page, which is why so many people start there. The subscription includes hosting, SSL and software updates, and there is an app market for bookings, stores, events and forms.
According to W3Techs on 18 October 2026, Wix runs 4.2% of all websites. For a sole trader who wants something online quickly and is happy editing it themselves, Wix is a reasonable place to begin.
The limits you should know about
- You can't take it with you. Wix's help centre states that the platform's architecture does not support exporting a site to another host. If you leave, the design is rebuilt from scratch. Blog posts also can't be exported to other platforms through Wix itself.
- Freedom causes mobile problems. Because elements can sit anywhere on desktop, the mobile view often needs fixing by hand. Many DIY Wix sites have overlapping text or hidden buttons on phones.
- Speed is partly out of your hands. You can compress images and limit apps, but you can't change the platform's code.
- Costs add up. Apps, premium features and renewal prices after a first-year discount can make Wix more expensive than expected.
Wix plan costs in the UK
Wix shows prices by location and we could not load UK prices directly from its pricing page. ExpertSure reported the following UK prices, taken from Wix's UK pricing page in July 2026, for annual billing:
| Plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly |
|---|---|---|
| Light | £9/month | £11.50/month |
| Core | £16/month | £19/month |
| Business | £25/month | £29/month |
| Business Elite | £119/month | £145/month |
Wix's pricing page says Core includes basic ecommerce and Business includes standard ecommerce. Check the live page before you buy, as Wix often runs introductory offers. Our design fee is separate and one-off; see our prices.
Fix it on Wix, or move?
We will give you a straight answer. Staying on Wix makes sense if:
- the site is small, mostly information or a simple booking page
- you are comfortable editing it yourself
- the main problems are design and mobile layout rather than features
Moving makes sense if you need a page per service to rank locally, a proper blog, a growing shop, or full control of speed. We usually move Wix sites to WordPress, or to Shopify for shops. We crawl every old URL, rebuild the content, set up 301 redirects and resubmit the sitemap in Search Console so you keep the rankings you have earned.
Getting more enquiries from a Wix site
Most Wix sites we review have the same few problems, and none of them are the platform's fault:
- No clear next step. Visitors can't see how to call or book. We add a click-to-call button on phones and one main call to action per page.
- One page for every service. A single services page can't rank for ten different searches. We create a page per service with its own title and description.
- Heavy media. Full-screen video backgrounds and large galleries slow pages on mobile data. We compress, resize or remove them.
- Inconsistent details. Your name, address and phone number should match your Google Business Profile exactly.
- Unused apps. Each app can add scripts. We remove anything you don't use.
Small fixes like these are often charged at £45 an hour + VAT rather than as a full redesign.
How a Wix project runs
- Review. We look at your current site on a phone, check Search Console data if you have it, and list what is costing you enquiries.
- Recommendation. Stay and redesign, or move. You get the reasoning and the price.
- Design. Page layouts with click-to-call, short forms and a clear next step on every page.
- Build and check. Every page tested at phone width, with titles, descriptions and image alt text set.
- Handover. Training so you can keep it updated, and every login in your name.

Frequently asked questions
Can I transfer my Wix website to another host?
No. Wix's help centre says its architecture doesn't support hosting a Wix site elsewhere. You can move your domain, and some content such as store products can be exported, but the design has to be rebuilt on the new platform.
Is Wix bad for SEO?
Not for simple sites. Wix covers titles, descriptions, sitemaps, SSL and redirects. The problems usually come from thin content, poor mobile layouts and slow apps rather than the platform itself. Sites that need detailed technical SEO usually do better elsewhere.
How much does Wix cost per month in the UK?
ExpertSure, quoting Wix's UK pricing page in July 2026, lists annual billing at £9 for Light, £16 for Core, £25 for Business and £119 for Business Elite per month. Monthly billing costs more. Check Wix's live page for current offers.
Will I lose my Google rankings if I leave Wix?
Not if the move is planned. We list every existing URL, recreate the content, and set up 301 redirects from old addresses to new ones. Rankings can wobble for a few weeks, but proper redirects keep most of the value.
Do you build new sites on Wix?
We can, if Wix genuinely suits you. More often we redesign existing Wix sites or move them to a platform with fewer limits. We will recommend the option that makes sense for your business and budget.
