Web Design for Tradespeople UK

dijitul web design builds websites for UK tradespeople such as roofers, joiners, plasterers, decorators and landscapers. Each site has click-to-call on every page, a page for each service and town you cover, real photos of your work and trade body logos shown correctly. Prices start from £250 + VAT for a Starter site.

Sound familiar?

  • Customers find you on Google, then ring the next trader because your site is slow on 4G
  • Your site says you cover 'the local area' and never shows up for the towns you actually work in
  • The quote form asks for twelve fields and nobody finishes it
  • You have hundreds of good job photos on your phone and none of them are on the site
  • Your nephew built the site, he has moved away and you cannot log in
  • You are not sure which logos you are allowed to show and which you are not

Key facts

  • Starter sites from £250 + VAT: up to 5 pages, live in 3 to 4 weeks
  • Business sites from £500 + VAT: a page per service, written to rank locally
  • Click-to-call and a short quote form on every page, built for one thumb
  • Google Business Profile set up and linked to the site
  • Trade body and scheme logos used only for the scope you are registered for
  • You own the site and the domain, with no lock-in

What people search for when they need a trade

Nobody searches for 'quality craftsmanship'. They search for the job and the place: 'flat roof repair Mansfield', 'fence fitter near me', 'plasterer for a ceiling'. A lot of these searches happen on a phone, often standing in the room with the problem. So a trades website has three jobs. It has to appear for the right job in the right town, prove you are real and competent within a few seconds, and make it easy to ring you or send a photo.

That shapes the build. Each service you want more of gets its own page with its own heading, a short description of how you do it, rough lead times and photos of that type of job. Area pages name the towns you really cover and say something true about working there. We do not invent offices or pad pages with a list of 200 postcodes, because Google treats thin location pages as low value and customers see straight through them.

Trade body logos: show them, but show them properly

Badges build trust, but every scheme has rules about who can show its mark and how. Get it wrong and you risk a complaint to Trading Standards, which is the opposite of what the logo was meant to do. Some examples we check on every trades build:

  • TrustMark: TrustMark tells homeowners to check any business showing its logo against its Find a Business register, and says it will notify the business of misuse and then pass it to local Trading Standards if nothing changes. Its brand guidelines say the original artwork must be used and never recreated.
  • NICEIC: NICEIC's April 2023 logo usage guidelines say organisations may not use the NICEIC logo on its own. Contractors show the scheme logo they hold, such as Approved Contractor or Domestic Installer, and only for work inside the scope of their certification.
  • Gas Safe Register: its February 2026 Brand Enforcement Policy says only registered gas businesses may display the brand or a registration number, and only with their registered trading name.

On the site we place each logo next to a short line saying what you are registered for, link it to your entry on the public register where one exists, and leave out anything you do not currently hold. If you lapse, the badge should come off the same week.

Built to get the phone ringing

A trades site is a sales tool, so conversion matters more than decoration. Every page carries your number in the header as a tap-to-call link, plus a button that stays visible as people scroll. The quote form asks for four things: name, phone, postcode and what the job is, with an optional photo upload. Customers can explain a leaking gutter far faster with a picture than with a paragraph.

We also add opening hours, whether you take emergency call-outs, and a realistic line about how fast you reply. If you only answer the phone after 6pm because you are on a roof all day, say so and offer a callback form. That honesty stops missed calls turning into bad reviews. Conversion tracking on calls and forms comes with our Business package, so you can see which pages actually produce work. Read more in conversion-focused web design.

Speed on a building site signal

Your customer might be on one bar of signal in a loft. Google's web.dev guidance says a page has a good Largest Contentful Paint at 2.5 seconds or less, measured at the 75th percentile of real visits, with Interaction to Next Paint at 200 milliseconds or less and Cumulative Layout Shift at 0.1 or less. Trades sites usually fail these because of huge photo galleries and plugins nobody needs.

We resize your job photos, convert them to WebP or AVIF with a fallback, lazy-load anything below the fold and keep third-party scripts to a minimum. A gallery of 60 jobs should still load its first screen quickly. If you want the full detail, see responsive web design.

The legal bits trades sites forget

If you trade as a limited company, the Company, Limited Liability Partnership and Business (Names and Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2015 require your registered name on your website, and council trading standards guidance says the registered number, registered office address and part of the UK you are registered in should be shown too. We put these in the footer. You also need a privacy notice that explains what the quote form collects, and a cookie banner if you run analytics or advertising tags, because PECR requires consent for non-essential cookies.

Reviews are another trap. Only show genuine reviews and link to where they live, such as your Google Business Profile. Never copy reviews from another firm or write your own.

Which package suits a trade business

Most sole traders start with our Starter package from £250 + VAT: up to five pages, a custom design, click-to-call, a contact form and your Google Business Profile set up. Once you want to rank for several services across several towns, the Business package from £500 + VAT gives you up to 15 pages, copywriting, schema and local SEO groundwork. Changes later are £45 an hour + VAT. Domain, hosting and premium plugins are listed separately in your quote. See full prices or ask for a quote.

Frequently asked questions

Can I show the TrustMark or NICEIC logo on my website?

Only if you are currently registered, and only for the work your registration covers. Use the official artwork from the scheme's portal, do not redraw or recolour it, and link it to your entry on the public register. NICEIC's guidelines say firms must show their scheme logo, not the NICEIC logo on its own.

How many pages does a tradesperson's website need?

Usually a home page, one page per main service, an about page with photos of you and your van, a gallery and a contact page. That fits the Starter package from £250 + VAT. If you want separate pages for each town you cover, the Business package from £500 + VAT allows up to 15 pages.

Will my website get me on the map in Google?

The map results come mainly from your Google Business Profile, not your website. We set your profile up and make sure the name, address and phone match the site exactly. We cannot promise a position, because nobody controls Google's rankings, but a consistent profile and good service pages give you a fair chance.

Can customers send me photos of the job through the site?

Yes. We can add an optional photo upload to the quote form, with sensible size limits, so customers can show you a cracked tile or a sagging gutter before you visit. The privacy notice explains what happens to those images and how long you keep them.

I am on the tools all day. Can I update the site myself?

Yes. We build on an editor you can use from your phone, so adding a job photo or changing your hours takes a couple of minutes. If you would rather not, small changes are £45 an hour + VAT, or a care plan from dijitulsupport.co.uk covers updates from £25 a month + VAT.

Do I need a cookie banner on a simple trades website?

If you run Google Analytics, advertising pixels or embedded maps that set cookies, yes. PECR requires consent before non-essential cookies are set. A site with no tracking at all may not need one, but most businesses want to know where enquiries come from.
