The short answer
Webflow is a hosted visual development platform. Designers build with real HTML and CSS concepts, such as classes, flexbox and grid, without writing code, and Webflow hosts the result on a fast global network with no plugins to update. WordPress is open-source software you host yourself, with a vast plugin library and complete control.
Webflow tends to suit companies with a marketing team that publishes landing pages and articles and wants pixel-accurate design. WordPress tends to suit businesses that need ecommerce, bookings, memberships or integrations, or that want the lowest running cost and the freedom to move host.

Plan limits worth knowing
Webflow restructured its site plans in 2026. On its pricing page in October 2026, Basic costs $15 a month billed yearly, allows 300 static pages and has no CMS, so no blog. Premium, at $25 a month billed yearly, adds the CMS with 20,000 items. Bandwidth beyond the plan allowance is an add-on. Because Webflow bills in dollars, UK costs move with the exchange rate, and VAT is added at checkout.
Collaborators matter too. Webflow charges for workspace seats for people who design or build, while content editors have separate, cheaper access. On WordPress, adding users costs nothing. For a team of five who all publish, check seat costs before deciding.
WordPress has no item or page limits in the software. Its limits come from your hosting, and from discipline: every plugin you add is another thing to update.
When the other option is better
For a typical UK small business that wants enquiries, we usually suggest WordPress, because it is cheaper to run and easier to extend. Webflow is the better option when:
- You have an in-house designer or marketer who wants to build and tweak pages visually, without a developer.
- Design accuracy matters a lot, such as a brand-led agency, product launch or investor-facing site.
- You do not want to manage plugins, PHP versions or security patches at all.
- Your content fits comfortably within the CMS limits and you do not need complex ecommerce.
WordPress is the stronger choice for shops with large catalogues or custom pricing, membership or booking sites, sites with very large content archives, and businesses that want to keep the whole site, database included, on servers they choose.
Speed and SEO
Webflow sites are often fast out of the box because there are no plugins adding scripts, and Webflow generates clean markup. A well-built WordPress site can be just as fast, but a poorly built one with a heavy page builder will not be. Both let you edit titles, meta descriptions, Open Graph tags, redirects and sitemaps, and both can carry schema markup, though WordPress plugins make complex schema easier. Either can meet Core Web Vitals targets of LCP within 2.5 seconds, INP within 200 milliseconds and CLS under 0.1 (web.dev).
Our approach
We build Webflow sites with a clean class system so your team can add pages without breaking styles, and WordPress sites with a lightweight custom theme. See Webflow website design and WordPress web design. If you are weighing up something simpler, our WordPress vs Squarespace comparison may help.
Frequently asked questions
Is Webflow better than WordPress?
Not across the board. Webflow is better for visual control and low maintenance on marketing sites. WordPress is better for ecommerce, plugins, very large content libraries and full ownership. The right answer depends on who will edit the site, what it needs to do, and how much upkeep you can take on.
Can I leave Webflow later?
Partly. Webflow's code export gives you static HTML and CSS, but its pricing page states that dynamic CMS content cannot be exported that way. CMS collections can be downloaded as CSV files and imported elsewhere, but templates and interactions need rebuilding on the new platform.
Does Webflow cost more than WordPress?
Usually, for running costs. Webflow's Premium plan, needed for a blog or CMS, is $25 a month billed yearly, plus any workspace seats. WordPress software is free and hosting can cost much less, though you need to budget for updates and maintenance or a care plan.
Can Webflow run an online shop?
Yes, for small to medium ranges. Webflow's ecommerce plans start at $29 a month billed yearly, with 500 items and a 2% transaction fee on Standard; higher plans allow 5,000 or 15,000 items with no transaction fee. Larger or more complex shops are usually better on Shopify or WooCommerce.
Is Webflow easy for clients to edit?
Yes, for text, images and CMS items such as blog posts or team members. Editors work on the live page in a simplified mode and cannot break the layout. Building new page layouts needs the full Designer, which has a learning curve similar to learning basic CSS.
Do you charge more to build in Webflow?
No. Our custom sites start from £250 + VAT on either platform, and larger sites move up to our Business package from £500 + VAT. Your Webflow site plan or WordPress hosting is a separate running cost, listed in the quote.
